QLS Factset Analytics Insight
QLS is a fund-of-funds that aims to emulate the returns of a group of multi-asset long/short hedge funds. It uses statistical analysis to map the returns of a hedge fund index onto a group of ETFs. The fund takes long and short (but not necessarily offsetting) positions in ETFs covering US, developed ex-US and emerging market equities, as well as investment-grade bonds and bank loans. Such broad building blocks seem like coarse tools to access a strategy often associated with taking opposing positions in extremely similar stocks. QLS is structured as a traditional ETF, albeit one that holds OTC derivatives.
