ETF Week: 4X ETPs Roll Out
The week also saw a flurry of bitcoin ETF filings hit the pipeline.
Below is a roundup of key developments in the ETF space during the week of Dec. 11, 2017:
Launches
VelocityShares launched the first group of exchange-traded products offering 4X exposure. The ETNs, all due on Dec. 15, 2032, list on the NYSE Arca, each with a fee of 1.5%:

- VelocityShares Daily 4X Long USD vs. EUR (DEUR)
- VelocityShares Daily 4X Long USD vs. GBP (DGBP)
- VelocityShares Daily 4X Long USD vs. CHF (DCHF)
- VelocityShares Daily 4X Long USD vs. AUD (DAUD)
- VelocityShares Daily 4X Long JPY vs. USD (UJPY)
- VelocityShares Daily 4X Long EUR vs. USD (UEUR)
- VelocityShares Daily 4X Long GBP vs. USD (UGBP)
- VelocityShares Daily 4X Long CHF vs. USD (UCHF)
- VelocityShares Daily 4X Long AUD vs. USD (UAUD)
Hartford launched an actively managed muni bond ETF, the Hartford Municipal Opportunities ETF (HMOP). HMOP comes with an expense ratio of 0.35% and lists on the NYSE Arca.
SL Advisors launched the American Energy Independence ETF (USAI). The fund lists on the NYSE Arca and comes with an expense ratio of 0.75%.
AdvisorShares launched first U.S.-listed ETF to tap into the legal marijuana industry, the actively managed AdvisorShares Vice ETF (ACT). ACT comes with an expense ratio of 0.75% and lists on the Nasdaq exchange.
IndexIQ launched the IQ Chaikin U.S. Large Cap ETF (CLRG), which will use the same methodology built around the Chaikin Power Gauge model. CLRG comes with an expense ratio of 0.25% and lists on the Nasdaq exchange.
Pacer launched another trend-following ETF, the Pacer WealthShield ETF (PWS), which will allocate between fixed income and a sector portfolio. PWS comes with an expense ratio of 0.60% and lists on the Cboe exchange. Cboe Global Markets is the parent company of ETF.com.
Filings
REX refiled for bitcoin ETFs. The REX Bitcoin Strategy ETF and the REX Short Bitcoin Strategy ETF will both be actively managed.
VanEck refiled for its bitcoin ETF, the VanEck Vectors Bitcoin Strategy ETF, which will be an actively managed fund that owns bitcoin futures. The filing did not include an expense ratio or ticker, but did indicate the fund will list on the Nasdaq.
First Trust filed for four bitcoin ETFs, two of them short funds. They are: the First Trust Bitcoin Strategy ETF; the First Trust Inverse Bitcoin Strategy ETF; the First Trust Bitcoin Plus Strategy ETF; and the First Trust Inverse Bitcoin Plus Strategy ETF.
