ETF Week: Big Vanguard News; Fund To Revamp
It was a quiet holiday week, with one glaring exception.
With the Fourth of July falling on a Wednesday, the holiday was expected to have a muting effect on the week, but Vanguard blew that idea to pieces with its announcement of commission-free trading on more than 1,800 ETFs. Additionally, Exchange Traded Concepts announced the revamp of the WEAR ETF (WEAR), which targets wearable technology, and there were a handful of noteworthy filings.
Below is a roundup of all the key events in the ETF industry during the week of July 2:
Key Development
- Vanguard announced it plans to begin offering commission-free trading on more than 1,800 ETFs, leaving out only those it considers “highly speculative and complex”
Filings
- Exchange Traded Concepts’ WEAR will receive a new name, ticker and index. Starting July 10, it will be known as the Tactile Analytics AR/VR Virtual Technology ETF (ARVR)
- Amplify ETFs filed for a “black swan” fund that will invest primarily in LEAP options and Treasury securities in order to protect investors from sharp and unexpected market downturns
- iShares plans to add two more target-date-maturity bond ETFs targeting municipal debt to its iBonds lineup
