The Worst Performing ETFs of 2026

We just looked at the best-performing ETFs of 2026 so far. That list was dominated by energy, with oil futures funds and energy stock ETFs leading the way.

The worst performers tell a very different story.

Crypto ETFs Dominate the Decliners

If there’s one clear theme among the biggest losers this year, it’s crypto.

The hardest-hit fund is the Grayscale Sui Staking ETF (GSUI), which is down 35.5% year to date. The fund tracks Sui, a smart contract platform similar in spirit to Ethereum and Solana, though built with a different architecture and its own set of trade-offs.

Losses across other crypto ETFs have been nearly as steep. Solana-focused funds like the Bitwise Solana Staking ETF (BSOL) and the Fidelity Solana Fund (FSOL) are both down roughly 33%.

Ethereum ETFs haven’t fared much better. The iShares Ethereum Trust (ETHA) has dropped more than 29% this year.

Other crypto funds are also deep in the red. The Canary Litecoin ETF (LTCC) has fallen close to 30%, while the iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (IBIT) is down 22.6%, ranking around 70th on the worst-performers list.

A Few Non-Crypto Names Show Up

While crypto dominates the list, a handful of non-crypto ETFs have also seen sharp declines.

The YieldMax AI Option Income Strategy ETF (AIYY) is down 34%, making it one of the worst-performing non-leveraged, non-inverse, non-single-stock ETFs this year.

Software has also been a weak spot. The iShares Expanded Tech-Software Sector ETF (IGV) is down 24.3%, as software stocks sold off amid concerns that advances in artificial intelligence could disrupt traditional software business models.

Elsewhere, the AdvisorShares Pure US Cannabis ETF (MSOS) has dropped 24.8%. There hasn’t been a clear catalyst. The cannabis space has simply remained volatile and under pressure after several difficult years.
