2026 ETF Inflows Cross $500B
Investors added more than $45 billion to ETFs last week.
Investors poured $45.4 billion into U.S.-listed ETFs during the week ending Friday, April 10, pushing year-to-date inflows to $524 billion.
U.S. equity ETFs pulled in $28.7 billion, international equity ETFs gathered $9.7 billion, and U.S. fixed income ETFs added $7.6 billion.
The buying came as U.S. stocks surged following news that the U.S. and Iran had reached a two-week ceasefire deal. The arrangement remains fragile and is far from a lasting resolution, but investors appeared willing to look past that. Stocks are now back within roughly 2% of their all-time highs, and ETF flows suggest plenty of investors were eager to chase the rally.
Broad Market Funds Lead the Charge
The biggest winners were the familiar giants.
The SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY) pulled in $12.4 billion, the most of any ETF last week. That is notable because SPY is often seen more as a trading vehicle than a long-term holding these days. Its huge inflow suggests that traders were moving back into the market.
The Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (VOO) was close behind with $7.7 billion in inflows, while the SPDR Portfolio S&P 500 ETF (SPYM) took in $2.6 billion.
There was also strong demand for semiconductors. The VanEck Semiconductor ETF (SMH) brought in $1.6 billion as chip stocks climbed to fresh record highs.
Fixed income also had a solid showing. The iShares iBoxx $ Investment Grade Corporate Bond ETF (LQD) pulled in $1.1 billion, indicating that some investors were adding credit exposure alongside stocks.
XLE See Money Head for the Exit
On the other side of the ledger, some investors were taking money off the table in areas that had already enjoyed big runs.
The Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLE) lost $1.2 billion last week. That looks a lot like profit-taking after energy stocks roared higher earlier this year. With geopolitical tensions easing, at least temporarily, some investors may have decided the easy gains in the energy trade had already been made.
The iShares MSCI India ETF (INDA) also posted sizable outflows, shedding $792 million.
Leveraged funds also saw significant redemptions. The Direxion Daily Semiconductor Bull 3X Shares (SOXL) lost $4.1 billion, while the ProShares UltraPro QQQ (TQQQ) gave up $894 million. Those products are heavily used by short-term traders and investors running more complex strategies, so the outflows do not necessarily signal bearishness.
