Stock markets kept rolling to the upside this week as investors continued pouring money into ETFs. On net, $36.3 billion flowed into U.S.-listed ETFs during the week ending Thursday, Feb. 11. That was enough to push year-to-date inflows up to $117.4 billion, above the $89.1 billion seen at this same time a year ago.

U.S. equity ETFs were the top destination for new money during the week ($24.7 billion of inflows), but international equity ETFs also saw strong demand ($9.8 billion of inflows), maintaining their lead on a year-to-date basis ($50.1 billion versus $36.7 billion).

That’s been the nature of this year’s rally—almost everything is performing well and seeing strong interest. And that’s reflected in this week’s flows data as well.

Everything from the passive iShares Core S&P 500 ETF (IVV), with weekly inflows of $7.3 billion, to the actively managed ARK Innovation ETF (ARKK), with inflows of $1.2 billion, is gathering money.

Ark Invest Enters Issuer Top 7

Ark Invest is worth discussing a bit more. A few weeks back, I wrote about how the firm broke into the top 10 issuer list; this week, ARK broke into the top seven.

According to the latest ETF.com League Table, ARK has $57.6 billion in assets under management, ahead of VanEck, J.P. Morgan and ProShares, each of which have $52 billion to $56 billion.

The next big leap for Ark may be harder to come by. First Trust, with $120.8 billion in assets, is next on the League Table, followed by Schwab and Invesco, with AUM of $213.2 billion and $313.1 billion, respectively.

Nevertheless, it’s hard to overstate just how impressive Ark’s run during the past year has been. At the start of 2021, the firm had ETF assets under management of $34.1 billion, while at the beginning of 2020, it had just $3.2 billion.

The firm has done a phenomenal job of capturing investors’ imaginations through its investments in futuristic themes, which have delivered eye-popping returns. The flagship ARKK is already up 25% so far this year, adding to 2020’s 152.8% gain.
