Int’l ETFs Pace Modest Weekly Inflows
Investors added $1.5 billion to U.S.-listed ETFs this week.
A ho-hum week for stock markets equaled a ho-hum week for ETF flows. All told, about $1.5 billion flowed into U.S.-listed ETFs during the week ending Thursday, Feb. 7, according to the latest data from FactSet.
Notably, investors continued to pull money out of U.S. equity ETFs. That segment shed $2.2 billion in assets this week, after seeing $27.1 billion in outflows in January.
Making up for the outflows from U.S. equity ETFs were international equity and international fixed-income funds. They picked up $2.2 billion and $3.1 billion, respectively.
YTD Inflows Flat
Putting it all together, net inflows for all U.S.-listed ETFs for 2019 thus far are $53 million—essentially flat.
Pacing the good week for international ETFs were funds like the Vanguard FTSE Emerging Markets ETF (VWO), the Vanguard Total International Bond ETF (BNDX) and the iShares JP Morgan USD Emerging Markets Bond ETF (EMB).
On the other hand, investors shunned U.S. ETFs like the Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ), the SPDR S&P Dividend ETF (SDY) and the iShares 1-3 Year Treasury Bond ETF (SHY).
