Weekly ETF Flows: Int'l Funds Popular

U.S.-listed ETFs added $1.294 billion in the week ended Thursday, Jan. 16, lifting industry assets to record highs, as total U.S.-listed assets climbed to $1.704 trillion from the previous week. International ETFs experienced net asset inflows of $1.82 billion, while U.S. equity funds redeemed $600.6 million.
The FTSE 100 index London’s FTSE 100 edged toward a 14-year high during the week on the strength of the World Bank's upward revision of global growth forecasts and gains at luxury group Burberry. In turn, the Vanguard FTSE Europe ETF (VGK | A-95) and the iShares MSCI United Kingdom (EWU | B-88) experienced inflows of $438.8 million and $317.7 million, respectively.
On the home front, disappointing corporate earnings pushed stocks mostly lower and pulled assets out of the SPDR S&P 500 (SPY | A-98), which redeemed $1.9 billion last week.
