ETF inflows were sizzling hot last week as the U.S. stock market notched a fresh record high.

Just under $40.5 billion flowed into U.S.-listed ETFs during the week ending Friday, Oct. 18, led by a $25.7 billion haul for U.S. equity exchange-traded funds.

U.S. fixed income ETFs also saw strong demand, with weekly inflows of $6.8 billion.

Year-to-date inflows now stand at $778 billion, leaving them on track to potentially surpass $1 trillion by the end of the year.

Taking a look at individual ETFs, the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY) and the Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) led the pack with weekly inflows of $9.8 billion and $3.6 billion, respectively.

SPY hit an all-time high on Friday, boosting its year-to-date gain to 24.2%.

QQQ remained a tad bit lower than its July record high, but is getting close. Year-to-date returns for the ETF currently stand at 21.3% versus 23.2% in July.

In terms of fixed income ETFs, the iShares 20+ Year Treasury Bond ETF (TLT) was the biggest flows winner, with creations of $1.7 billion.

However, unlike most stock ETFs, bond ETFs have been falling in recent weeks. Since Sept. 16, the date of its 2024 high, TLT has dropped almost 9% as stronger economic data caused investors to pare back Fed rate cut expectations.

In addition to stock and bond ETFs, investors favored gold and bitcoin funds last week. The iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) and the SPDR Gold Trust (GLD) each had inflows of around $1 billion.

Both assets, bitcoin and gold, have surged this year. IBIT is up 44% this year, while GLD is up 32%.
