International ETFs Take Flight as Domestic Inflows Drop
Plus, domestic equity funds shed nearly $2 billion last week.
International bond and equity exchange-traded funds took center stage last week as investors shirked domestic product offerings.
ETFs brought in $8.2 billion in the week ending Friday, Jan. 27, 19.6% shy of the $10.2 billion that the investment vehicle pulled in the week prior.
Most of the inflows stemmed from international equity funds, which lured in $7.6 billion, the largest haul the asset class has seen thus far this year. International fixed income products took second place, posting $1.5 billion in inflows during the same period.
Funds that gained the most traction last week included the JPMorgan BetaBuilders Europe ETF (BBEU), the iShares Core MSCI International Developed Markets ETF (IDEV) and the Vanguard Total International Bond ETF (BNDX), which collectively attracted nearly $4 billion in assets, according to ETF.com data.
On the other side of the ledger, U.S equity funds bled nearly $2 billion, compared with the $382 million in outflows the asset class reported the week prior.
Meanwhile, U.S. fixed income funds shed $468 million last week, compared with the $4.5 billion that flocked into domestic bond funds in the week ending Jan. 20. This is the first time U.S. fixed income products have posted net losses since the week ending Sept. 23, 2022, according to ETF.com data.
Funds that lost the greatest assets last week included the SPDR S&P Biotech ETF (XBI), the iShares Core Dividend Growth ETF (DGRO) and the iShares Russell 1000 Growth ETF (IWF), whose collective losses totaled $3.3 billion, ETF.com data shows.
