U.S. stocks hit their highest levels since early June this week as money continued to flow into U.S.-listed ETFs. On net, $11.7 billion entered the ETF space, led by a $3.3 billion haul for the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY). On Wednesday, the S&P 500 closed above 3,200 for the first time since June 9.

Following this week's gains, year-to-date ETF inflows edged up to $230.1 billion, well ahead of last year's $122.1 billion pace.

Evenly Split

This week's inflows were evenly distributed. U.S. equity ETFs picked up $3.8 billion of new money; international equity ETFs gathered $2.7 billion; and U.S. fixed income ETFs received $3.4 billion during the week ending Thursday, July 16.

In addition to the aforementioned SPY, the iShares Russell 2000 ETF (IWM) and the First Trust Capital Strength ETF (FTCS) were popular among equity investors.

At the same time, the Vanguard Total Bond Market ETF (BND), the iShares Core U.S. Aggregate Bond ETF (AGG) and the iShares iBoxx USD High Yield Corporate Bond ETF (HYG) were fixed income ETFs in favor.

Outflows From Tech

On the outflows side, the Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) topped the list, with weekly redemptions totaling $2.5 billion. The tech-heavy ETF shed assets as investors took profits on high-flying technology shares.

A host of other sector ETFs, including the Utilities Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLU), the Real Estate Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLRE)  and the Materials Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLB) also saw outflows during the week.
