U.S.-listed ETFs had net outflows of a little under $1.5 billion this week after Wall Street had its worst day in months, marking the third week this year that investors have pulled money out of the industry.

Fears over the growing surge of COVID-19 variants around the world and the potential for slowing recovery sent the S&P 500 into a 1.5% decline on Monday as investors sought more risk-off positions.

However, a slew of strong corporate earnings led to an immediate bounce-back on Tuesday and continued positive days through the end of Thursday, July 22.

Cumulative inflows for U.S.-listed funds now stand at just over $496.2 billion and well within striking distance of the milestone $500 billion inflow mark.

US Equities Slip Bear Brunt

The sell-off on Monday primarily hit U.S. equity funds hard, with the asset class losing $6.7 billion compared to inflows of $3.6 billion and $1.5 billion for international equities and U.S. fixed income, respectively.

The SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY) and the Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) were the main losers on the week, with respective outflows of $6.1 billion and $4.1 billion.

On the flip side, the iShares Core S&P 500 ETF (IVV) and the Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (VOO) recorded net inflows of $1.9 billion and $1.8 billion, respectively, while the iShares 7-10 Year Treasury Bond ETF (IEF) posted an AUM gain of 11% as fears of short-run inflation continued to percolate.
