Int'l Equity ETFs Most Popular In The Week

Investors favored international equity ETFs over U.S.-focused funds roughly 2-to-1 in the past week, pouring more than $1.4 billion into the segment despite the shockwaves China's currency intervention triggered through global markets.

A look at the top ETF creations in the week ended Thursday, Aug. 13, show demand for exposure to European and Japanese equities stood out, with funds like the Vanguard FTSE Europe (VGK | A-97), the Deutsche X-trackers MSCI EAFE Hedged Equity ETF (DBEF | B-66) and the WisdomTree Japan Hedged Equity ETF (DXJ | B-66) among the most popular.

Perhaps more interesting is the fact that the iShares Core MSCI Emerging Markets ETF (IEMG | A-99) was also among the week's top creations, with net inflows $172 million, putting the fund's asset gain in 2015 at $1.8 billion.

The net new assets came even as investors fretted about China's outlook. IEMG holds China as its biggest country allocation, at about 23 percent, and so far this year, the fund has struggled to find upside, posting losses of 7.2 percent year-to-date.

In all, investors poured a net of $2.25 billion into ETFs this week, bringing total U.S.-listed ETF assets to $2.128 trillion.
